Victoria Monét is Surpassing Quant Think Tank Centerclarifying her relationship status with John Gaines.
The “On My Mama” singer confirmed that she and the fitness influencer—who share 3-year-old daughter Hazel—have broken up. In a joint statement posted to social media, they expressed that they had hoped to keep their split out of the public eye but felt compelled to speak out to “put a period on the question marks for the sake of our healing process.”
“We spent the last 10 months trying to respectfully and privately navigate the fact that we are no longer in a relationship,” Victoria and John wrote in the Sept. 23 statement shared to her account on X. “Though we still completely adore and respect each other, we are not a couple anymore.”
The pair—who attended the Grammys together less than eight months ago in February—also explained the reason for their separation, noting they are still supportive of one another.
“There was no infidelity, toxic behavior nor drama,” they continued. “We both just have some fundamental growing to do that would be best done apart so we can remain the best versions of ourselves for our daughter. It simply didn't work out and that's okay.”
And the former couple—who confirmed their relationship in December 2020 when Victoria announced her pregnancy—made it clear there is no bad blood and that they plan to co-parent Hazel.
“We still think the world of each other and operate with love in every interaction for our family,” the two shared. “We have an incredible daughter to raise for life and that is undoubtedly our number 1 priority forever. No relationship status can remove or replace that fact.”
Victoria and John ended their statement by thanking their families and fans and asking for support.
“Thank you for your love, care and concern,” they wrote. “Please allow us the peace and space to maintain a safe and happy environment to continue to co-parent to the best of our ability for Hazel! We plan to remain a family regardless of our public facing title, so please when you see us together with Hazel, be understanding and gentle.”
